With the new Premier League season now less than three weeks away, supporters worldwide are looking forward to the big kick-off on August 5.

Some fanbases, though, are a lot more confident heading into the 2022/23 campaign than others.

In partnership with YouGov, the folks over at Skybet recently conducted their annual Fan Hope Survey, polling over 1500 supporters on their expectations for the season ahead.

Fans for all 20 Premier League clubs were asked on a scale of 1-10, with ten being the most positive, how optimistic they are about their team’s chances.

Understandably, supporters of last season's top two - Manchester City and Liverpool - can't wait for the new season to get underway.

Both teams have invested in new strikers, with their fanbases full of belief that they will be front and centre in the title race.

This time last year, Newcastle finished bottom of the survey. What a difference 12 months can make.

The Magpies rank in third-place overall in 2022, with an impressive 7.7/10 confidence rating, up from 3.94 last season. Just goes to show what trading Mike Ashley for billionaire owners can do for you, we guess!

The future doesn't look anywhere near as bright down the bottom of the table. It took Everton until the final week of last season to secure their Premier League status - and Toffees fans fear a similar struggle this time around.

Frank Lampard's team are bottom of the pile, returning a score of just 4.9/10.

Ralph Hasenhüttl isn't exactly inspiring much more confidence among Southampton fans. The Saints could only muster a 5/10 rating from their supporters.

Newly-promoted Fulham sit in 18th place (5.6/10), while Manchester United fans aren't totally sold on the idea that Erik ten Hag will be an instant success at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils' fanbase gave their side a pretty damning 5.8/10 score, leaving the 13-time Premier League champions in 17th place, trailing the likes of Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.

United recorded their worst-ever Premier League campaign in 2021/22. Surely the only way is up under Ten Hag?

Of course, these confidence rankings could look very different by the end of August. A strong start to the season will soon have the doubters singing a different tune.

Likewise, a rough first few games for a club is likely to test the resolve of even their most optimistic supporter.

The new season is almost upon us - and we can't wait!
