Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong is "excited" to play under Erik ten Hag once again at Old Trafford.

The £54m-rated midfielder is on the verge of becoming the Dutchman's second signing as United boss, with the pair set to reunite following their time spent together at Ajax.

What's the latest news involving De Jong?

Following weeks of uncertainty surrounding De Jong's future, the Red Devils have finally agreed a deal with Barcelona for the 25-year-old's services.

The Catalan giants signed him from Ajax for £65m back in the summer of 2019, although United will pay Barcelona slightly less (£63m), but he could end up costing them more than £70m once potential add ons come into play.

But United aren't in the clear just yet. Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Netherlands international's priority is to stay at the Nou Camp, with the report claiming that United will still have to convince De Jong to join the Premier League.

Despite Old Trafford not being his preferred destination, Jones reckons that De Jong is still looking forward to linking up with Ten Hag following their success together at Ajax, with the duo winning the double in 2018-2019.

What did Jones say about De Jong?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Frenkie [de Jong] obviously hasn't been dreaming about this move but in fairness, from what I hear, it does seem like he's genuinely excited to play for Ten Hag.

"The role he will be given in this team will suit him perfectly, and United will improve hugely as a result. This is a big signing, and one fans should be very excited about."

Are United close to signing anyone else?

On top of De Jong, Ten Hag is close to linking up with another of his former players.

That's because according to Sky Sports, United are 'finalising a deal' to sign De Jong's ex-Ajax teammate Lisandro Martinez.

The report state that Martinez's proposed switch to Old Trafford is currently at an 'advanced stage', with the Dutch champions asking for £42.3m for his services.

Should United prove successful in the deal, they would have beaten off competition from Arsenal, who previously saw bids rejected for the versatile defender.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo asking to leave the club, adding De Jong and Martinez to his squad would be a major step in the right direction for Ten Hag.
