The Cincinnati Bengals have dropped an epic video to tease the fact that they will be introducing a new set of helmets for the 2022 NFL season.

The league policy had long been that all players were limited to using just one helmet per season, the reasoning being that it would help prevent concussions and improve player safety if they didn’t have to keep chopping and changing designs throughout the year.

However, last year the league announced that it would allow teams to wear two different helmets so that they would look better with some of the team’s alternate uniforms. So no more will the team have to look somewhat out of sync as they wear a helmet design from the 2020s whilst sporting a jersey and pants that are from the 1970s.

A number of teams have taken advantage of the new rule, including most recently the Houston Texans who will be wearing a ‘battle red’ version during one of their games this year. And now the AFC Champions Cincinnati Bengals have announced that they’ll be doing the same.

All white on the night

Posting on their social media channels, the Bengals announced that they will be donning a white helmet during the season, which will match perfectly with their white road uniforms, but they didn’t show pictures of it just yet:

The Bengals have traditionally worn an orange helmet during their history, although changed to the modern tiger skin looking design ahead of the 2004 season.

The mystery continues

Whilst the team posted a teaser video, they only showed a teaser picture of what the helmets will look like (although based on the teaser and the design they currently have, it shouldn’t be too hard to come up with an image in your mind).

How many times they will wear this helmet is at this point not confirmed, it might be for a one-off game, or it could be incorporated into their road uniforms every time they play away from Paul Brown Stadium. Either way, if this reaction is anything to go by, you imagine replicas of them are going to be flying off the shelves once they become available to the public.
