A Nigerian football team appear to have been caught match-fixing in a cup final penalty shootout. The 2022 edition of the Ogun State FA Cup final, which was contested by Remo Stars and Ijebu United, went to penalties after neither side could find the back of the net in normal time. And it was in the shootout where things started to get very, very dodgy. For one of Ijebu United's spot kicks, the opposing goalkeeper stood on his line and didn't move a muscle as the ball nestled in the back of the net from a fairly tame effort. But that was absolutely nothing compared to one of the penalties from Remo Stars, which has quickly attracted a lot of attention on social media. The player - whose name we do not know as of yet - stepped up in an attempt to score from 12 yards, but sent the ball out for a throw-in with a wild swing of his boot. No, we're not joking. The footage really is as wild as it sounds and to make things even worse, the player in question actually put his hands on his head to try and suggest that he was trying to find the back of the net.Sorry, but you're fooling no one...

Video: Match-fixing in Ogun State FA Cup final shootout?

Madness, complete madness. We can categorically say that we have never seen anything quite like that.

Unsurprisingly, football fans on social media have been quick to suggest that there was match-fixing afoot in the shootout, which Ijebu United eventually won 3-0 to be crowned champions.

Here's some of the reaction...

Sports writer Ibukun Aluko, whose Twitter post containing the wild footage has picked up some insane numbers on the social media platform, has confirmed he'll be interviewing both clubs involved on The Hindsight Podcast.

He wrote: "I will be interviewing the clubs involved on my next Podcast @TheHindsightPod, stay tuned guys..."

We cannot wait to hear what they have to say about the incident.
