Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper ‘wants to bring’ Morgan Gibbs-White to the club this summer, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move away from Wolverhampton Wanderers in recent weeks following a successful loan spell with Sheffield United throughout 2021/22.

What is the latest news involving Gibbs-White?

A recent report from The Athletic revealed that Wolves manager Bruno Lage wants to integrate Gibbs-White into his first-team plans at Molineux next season.

However, talks over a new contract have failed to progress with the England Under-21 international, opening the door to a potentially imminent move away from his boyhood club.

Gibbs-White only has two years remaining on his existing deal and it’s claimed that Everton have now joined Forest in the pursuit of his signature.

The Toffees reportedly had a £25 million offer turned down for the attacking midfielder, with Wolves set to demand £30m for their academy graduate, a figure that would make him Forest’s record signing.

Cooper previously worked with Gibbs-White at Swansea City and when he was in charge of England’s Under-17’s, and a reunion at the City Ground could now be on the cards.

What has Talbot said about Gibbs-White?

Forest have been credited with an interest in several players since they won promotion from the Championship, but Talbot believes the speculation surrounding Gibbs-White has legs.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “I think especially with Gibbs-White, there's something there.

“And you look at Gibbs-White, and you look at his great relationship with Steve Cooper, who worked together at Swansea, and the player wants to move, and Steve Cooper wants to bring him in.”

Would Gibbs-White be a good signing?

Gibbs-White enjoyed the most productive campaign of his senior career last time out, registering 13 goals and 10 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.

The creative talent played a pivotal part as Sheffield United reached the play-offs and was even named their Player of the Season. And when looking at his underlying numbers, it’s easy to understand why.

As per WhoScored, Gibbs-White averaged 2.5 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per league game last term, producing tallies that none of his former teammates could better.

Only time will tell if Cooper can convince the youngster to join his Forest revolution in what would surely be considered a major coup for the ambitious newly-promoted outfit.
