Celtic are not chasing the signing of Vitória Guimarães and Guinea-Bissau midfielder Alfa Semedo for £3m, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

Reports in Portugal (via Football Scotland) have suggested that Celtic are looking at a deal to bring the midfielder to the Scottish Premiership club this summer.

What’s the latest on Celtic?

Celtic have made five additions to Ange Postecoglou’s side this summer thus far, as the champions look to defend their title again this coming season.

Last season’s loan star in Jota has made the move to Celtic Park permanent this summer, having joined from Benfica for a rumoured fee of £6.5m.

Another one of last season’s loan stars in Cameron Carter-Vickers has also made his move to Glasgow permanent, with the centre-back joining the Premiership side in a deal which would rise from the initial £6m to £10m with add-ons.

Argentine left-back Alexandro Bernabei has joined Postecoglou’s side from Lanus in his native Argentina, in a deal worth £3.75m.

And the Australian manager has also dipped into the Japanese market again, which worked so successfully for the side last season, with the acquisition of last season’s loan star Daizen Maeda, in a deal worth around £2m.

Goalkeeper Ben Siegrist has also joined the Parkhead club this summer, after signing for the club on a free from Dundee United.

But whilst you would assume the club are looking to make more additions this summer, Joseph doesn’t believe that Semedo will be one of the targets that Celtic pursue during the transfer window.

What has Joseph said about Semedo?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think the Portuguese media were reporting that a loan deal and a fee had been agreed [for Semedo].

“We don't believe that to be the case.

“As far as I'm led to believe Celtic are not pursuing the signing of Semedo.”

What next for Celtic?

The news that Celtic are not actively pursuing a midfielder could potentially come as a blow to fans of the Scottish champions, who would like to see more signings in the middle of the park to help them with their defence of the league title this season.

In terms of midfield additions, Celtic have been talking to St. Mirren over the prospect of signing 17-year-old Dylan Reid.

That is according to Planet Radio, which states that St. Mirren have accepted a bid from the Hoops to sign the young midfielder, despite the fact that manager Stephen Paisley would prefer for him to stay at his current club.

Despite the fact that Celtic fans may be disappointed about the news about Semedo, fans of the club can be assured that the Scottish champions will be firing on all cylinders to bring in signings to strengthen their squad ahead of a Premiership and Champions League campaign.
