Paris Saint-Germain kickstarted their 2022/23 pre-season campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Ligue 2 outfit US Quevilly-Rouen Métropole on Friday afternoon.

The Christophe Galtier era at the club has got off to the perfect start and the new manager named a pretty strong lineup for his first match in charge.

Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Marquinhos, Leandro Paredes and Mauro Icardi all started from the off.

It was Messi and Ramos - two old rivals from their Barcelona and Real Madrid days - who combined for the first goal.

The little Argentine genius that is Messi won a penalty for PSG in the 33rd minute of play and instead of opting to take it himself, he unselfishly handed it to Ramos.

Now, given their fiery El Clasico battles down the years, that is something we never thought we'd see on a football pitch.

But it really has happened and Ramos responded to Messi's newfound generosity towards him by firing the ball into the bottom corner.

A great penalty from Ramos, who is a pretty accomplished taker. He's scored from the spot a significant number of times for both Real Madrid and the Spain national team throughout his distinguished career.

But the legendary centre-back rippling the back of the net after being given the ball by Messi? Yeah, it still sounds weird and lots of fans on social media are struggling to come to terms with it.

More fan reaction

Both Messi and Ramos will be hoping for much better seasons at PSG in 2022/23 after they both failed to live up to expectation last time out.

The superstar duo joined the Ligue 1 champions last summer on free transfers, but struggled to have much of an impact during the course of 2021/22.

Ramos spent the majority of the campaign on the treatment table with various injuries, while Messi was a pale shadow of the player who's dominated the sport over the past decade or so.

The 35-year-old still contributed 15 assists across all competitions, but was only able to find the back of the net himself on 11 occasions - which is pretty poor by his lofty standards.

Will we see something close to prime Messi and Ramos at PSG in 2022/23 now they'll each have a full pre-season under their belts? Only time will tell...
