Tottenham target Lucas Paqueta is a "very viable option for Antonio Conte", according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The Spurs boss has already made six summer signings, but he still wants to add an attacking midfielder to his squad, with the Lyon star on his wish list.

What's the latest news involving Paqueta?

According to Football.London, Tottenham are interested in signing the Brazil international, whose stock has risen since he signed from AC Milan two years ago.

They face stiff competition for Paqueta's services, though, with both Newcastle, who were linked in January, and Arsenal also in the race for the highly-rated 24-year-old.

But CBS reporter Ben Jacobs reckons that Paqueta has expressed his desire to leave, while the French outfit wouldn't stop him from leaving, providing they receive an offer of around £55m.

That would force Tottenham to spend close to the record transfer fee they paid the same club for Tanguy Ndombele back in 2019.

But with Champions League football and funds available following their £150m injection of cash, Talbot reckons it would make sense for the north London outfit to push for the midfielder.

What did Talbot say about Paqueta?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I certainly believe so. His representatives will be picking up the phone and speaking to a number of people and trying to get a deal over the line.

"And Tottenham are in the Champions League, he's a talented player and they do have money, so he's a very viable option for Conte."

Do Tottenham need Paqueta?

Conte has played 3-4-3 since taking over the reins from Nuno Espirito Santo in November, which doesn't appear to suit a creative midfielder.

However, adding a number 10 to his squad would add another string to Conte's bow and give him an extra dimension as he gears for Spurs' return to the Champions League.

And while Tottenham would have to pay in excess of £50m, something they've only done twice in their entire history, in Paqueta they would getting one of the top attacking midfielders in Europe.

Since making the switch to Lyon in 2020, the Brazilian has scored 21 goals and laid on 13 assists in just 77 appearances, proving himself as a consistently top class performer in Ligue 1.

Paqueta can also play in a deeper centre role, out wide and up front, showing his versatility, and further highlighting what a good signing he would be for Spurs.
