Alessia Russo was on fire against Northern Ireland.Having come on for Ellen White as a second-half substitute, the Manchester United striker scored twice within 10 minutes as the Lionesses thrashed their UK rivals 5-0. The 23-year-old has now scored three goals at Euro 2022 this year, despite starting none of England’s three group games. Russo rightly received plaudits for her impact off the bench on Friday, but fans were especially impressed with an individual moment of magic in the build-up to her second goal at St Mary's. Leah T-ShirtCHECK OUT OUR LEAH WILLIAMSON T-SHIRT HERE

Russo’s ‘incredible’ skill

After being fed a pass by her United teammate Ella Toone, Russo had her back to goal but took the ball in her stride –– taking just one touch as she swivelled and then rifled the ball past Jackie Burns.

“What a baller. Top class stuff,” said one fan on Twitter.

Meanwhile, someone else stated: “If you need me, I’ll be watching this on repeat for the foreseeable.”

Sports reporter Beth Fisher, who posted the initial clip of Russo, said: “Probably responsible for half the views on this. Just sublime.”

Bergkamp comparisons

Some people have even gone as far as comparing Russo’s skill to Dennis Bergkamp’s legendary turn on former Newcastle player Nikos Dabizas.

“Bergkampesque… No higher compliment… @alessiarusso,” proclaimed one Twiter user.

Another responded: “Was thinking exactly the same. Exquisite touch.”

England continue exceptional form

While Russo was mightily impressive against Northern Ireland, there were plenty of other standout performers for England on the night.

Beth Mead notched her fifth goal of the tournament –– the joint most ever by an England player at the Euros, along with Alan Shearer.

Fran Kirby was another who got on the scoresheet. The Chelsea star joins Michael Owen in scoring at four consecutive major tournaments.

Though it’s been the forwards who have received the most plaudits, England’s defence continued to be solid and Sarina Wiegman’s side are still yet to concede at the tournament.

Having qualified top of Group A,  the Lionesses will face either Denmark or Spain in the quarter-finals on July, 20th.

Denmark must beat Spain to have any hope of qualification, while Germany have already qualified as group winners.

Both Denmark and Spain are strong teams on paper, but given England’s exceptional form so far in the tournament, they will no doubt be favourites to reach the semis, regardless of who they play.
