Ryan Garcia continued his impressive unbeaten record last night, with a sixth round KO victory over Javier Fortuna at the crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

This was a fight that had been a long time in the making, with the pair originally set to fight in July 2021, but Garcia pulled out citing mental health reasons.

Both fighters generally fight at lightweight, but made the move up in weight to super lightweight for this fight at the request of Fortuna’s camp.

Prior to the fight, Fortuna, whose record reads 37-4-1, wanted to show the world how overrated he felt 23-year-old Garcia is. Unfortunately for the Dominican, Garcia left his more experienced opponent eating his words, as well as his punches.

In truth, Garcia completely out-boxed 33-year-old Fortuna. This was evidenced by the fact that the unbeaten American knocked Fortuna down in the fourth and fifth round, before delivering the final hammer blow in the sixth.

Footage has emerged showing the flurry of punches which saw Garcia claim victory, with the big left hand proving that Garcia is not a fighter you want to mess with.

After the two previous knockdowns, this one 27 seconds into round six resulted in Fortuna dropping to his knee and spitting out his gumshield. He knew the fight was done and Garcia’s victory saw his record move to 23-0 in an impressive start to his career.

Following the fight, ‘King Ry’ claimed that he was comfortable at super lightweight and would not be returning to fight at lightweight.

Many boxing fans may have feared that this change in fighting weight would mean a fight between Garcia and another up and coming star in Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis may not happen.

However, Garcia soon quashed these concerns, stating: "I'm not going back to 135 for nothing but I will fight 'Tank' next. If 'Tank' wants it at 140.

"Hey, I'm going to record all the negotiations so that you guys don't make no headlines saying I'm ducking. If he wants it, let's get it.”

Davis has fought at super lightweight in the past, so the step up should not be too much of a problem for him but, with Garcia’s post-fight call out, the ball is now firmly in Davis’ court.
