Roger Federer has treated us to numerous moments of jaw-dropping magic on a tennis court.

The Swiss saved perhaps his greatest shot for Nick Kyrgios, leaving the famously outspoken Australian completely speechless.

A feat arguably more impressive than his 20 grand slam titles.

The pair faced off in the third round of the 2018 US Open in front of a full Arthur Ashe crowd.

The encounter was billed as blockbuster, with all three of their previous meetings going the distance.

On this occasion, the contest was more one-sided with Federer romping to a 6-4 6-1 7-5 straight sets victory.

However, ‘The GOAT’ left fans with a moment of typical brilliance in the deciding set.

Kyrgios played a sumptuous forehand drop shot which had Federer seemingly stranded on the baseline.

With the Australian approaching the net and the ball travelling ever-wider, the second bounce seemed inevitable.

However, Federer demonstrated his genius and guile, bounding forward and playing the ball at its lowest point, nudging it around the net-post.

A collective gasp was heard throughout the arena, and was swiftly followed by rapturous applause. An open-mouthed Nick Kyrgios could only stand and admire the work of his superior opponent.

Such is the greatness of the man, Federer admitted the motion was borne out of shear instinct and athleticism.

He said: “The funny thing about it, I didn’t think about it until I hit. I actually thought I wasn’t going to get it.
I thought it went too flat. But, good feet, and I went for it.”

The sport has sadly missed the eight-time Wimbledon champion, who has not played competitively in over a year.

Federer recently fell out of the ATP world rankings. The Swiss attended the All England Lawn Tennis Club’s 100th anniversary celebration of Centre Court to the delight of his many fans.
