Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is using his 'personal contacts' in the transfer market but deals for Paulo Dybala and Brian Brobbey are unlikely, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Lisandro Martinez, the Dutchman's former defensive general at Ajax, was recently announced as their third signing of the summer but moves for attacking targets have not progressed.

Who are the latest names linked to Old Trafford?

Ten Hag is eager to put his mark on the Red Devils' squad this summer and has already brought in three impressive names to that end, but it does not seem he is ready to stop just yet.

Following the signings of Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia, United were linked with a move for RB Leipzig forward Brobbey.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with Ajax, scoring seven goals in 13 appearances under Ten Hag. He even joked that he would follow the manager to Old Trafford in the coming years.

A report from Dutch outlet De Telegraaf has stated that Brobbey is set to sign permanently for the Dutch champions instead, informing Ten Hag in a personal conversation.

Paulo Dybala is another big name linked with a move to United this summer after the striker left Juventus at the end of last season.

But according to Tuttomercatoweb, Dybala has opted to sign for Jose Mourinho's Roma side, snubbing United and Arsenal in the process.

What has Jones said about Ten Hag and the double deal?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "No, I don't think there's been much progress on that front, particularly with those players [Dybala and Brobbey], but the feelers are out right now for attainable players.

"Now, everyone is working on that from Ten-Hag and his personal contacts to [John] Murtough with his contacts. So we're hearing little leaks here and there."

Why are United on the hunt for new strikers?

The 2021-22 campaign was one to forget for United as they limped to a sixth place finish, experiments involving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralph Rangnick both failing spectacularly.

A large part of that problem was a lack of firepower in attack. While Cristiano Ronaldo and his 18 goals (24 in all competitions) were only beaten by golden boot winners Mohamed Salah and Heung-Min Son, the club's second-highest tally was Bruno Fernandes' 10 goals.

Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford both failed to produce as well, scoring five goals each across all competitions, so it is easy to see why the area is being prioritised.

The news of Ronaldo's desire to leave will have only added emphasis to the importance of bolstering the final third so while Dybala and Brobbey may not be the chosen ones, expect more names to emerge soon.
