Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won a record fifth women’s 100 metre world title after bolting to victory in 10.67 seconds in Oregon.

It was a Jamaican clean sweep after Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah finished with silver and bronze respectively.

At 35-years-old, Fraser Pryce became the first to win five world titles in an individual track event.

The two-time Olympic champion first earned a 100m world title in 2009, and she now has 10 across the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.

"I feel blessed to have this talent and to continue to do it at 35, having a baby, still going, and hopefully inspiring women that they can make their own journey," Fraser-Pryce said.

With the age-defying sprinter making headlines at the World Athletics Championships, GiveMeSport Women lists 11 athletes who are still smashing it over the age of 35.

There’s not much more to say about the sprinting sensation. Fraser-Pryce may have lost out on the Olympic 100m and 200m titles to Elaine Thompson-Herah last year, but the World Championships is where she thrives.

Her most recent victory made her the oldest female sprinter to claim a world 100m title, just five years after giving birth to her first child.

10) Lionel Messi, 35

Messi only joined the 35 and over club in June, but he must be included on this list. The Argentinian may no longer be at his best, but he is still one of the most highly-rated footballers in the world.

He helped Paris Saint-Germain to Ligue 1 glory last season – the 11th league title of Messi’s glittering career. Messi is also expected to star for Argentina at the World Cup in November.

9) Marta, 36

Marta may currently be on the sidelines with an ACL injury, but she is expected to be an integral player for club and country when she returns, despite being 36-years-old.

The Brazilian signed with Orlando Pride in the NWSL in 2017, and became the side’s oldest goalscorer in October after hitting the back of the net against Gotham FC. She was also named in last year’s FIFPro Women's World 11.

Widely considered as one of the greatest female football players to grace the pitch, Marta is set to make her return from injury at the start of 2023.

8) Tiger Woods, 46

Woods is still yet to retire from golf, despite his 47th birthday being just five months away.

He has won one major since turning 35, turning back time at the Masters Tournament in 2019. The American has since shown remarkable resilience to overcome personal issues and a car crash last year to return to the PGA Tour.

7) Cristiano Ronaldo, 37

At 37-years-old, Ronaldo is still performing at the highest level of football, and certainly has the physique to do so.

He was often crucial for Manchester United last season, scoring 18 goals and setting up three more over 30 matches in the Premier League. The Portuguese star also hit the back of the net six times in the Champions League.

As with Messi, Ronaldo will be featuring for Portugal at the World Cup later this year.

6) Serena Williams, 40

Williams won the last of her 23 Grand Slams aged 35, triumphing at the Australian Open in 2017. She was also two months pregnant.

Since then, the tennis legend has been on the hunt for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam, reaching four finals across Wimbledon and the US Open.

After injury kept her away from the tennis court for 12 months, Williams made her return at Wimbledon last month.

5) Tom Brady, 44

Brady will celebrate his 45th birthday next month, just two years after his seventh Super Bowl title.

The only quarterback to win a Super Bowl in three separate decades, the American was the oldest NFL MVP at age 40, the oldest Super Bowl MVP at age 43, and the oldest quarterback selected to the Pro Bowl at age 44.

Brady announced his retirement in February, but then decided to return to American football after just 40 days away.

4) Sarah Storey, 44

Storey became Britain’s most successful Paralympian of all time at the age of 44.

She earned three gold medals at Tokyo 2020, successfully defending her individual pursuit, time trial and road race titles, and bringing her Paralympic gold medal tally up to 17.

3) Novak Djokovic, 35

Djokovic is another athlete who has only just turned 35, but he has got off to a brilliant start.

The Serbian defeated Nick Kyrgios to triumph at Wimbledon earlier this month, clinching his 21st Grand Slam title.

He may find it difficult to add to this any time soon, however. His next Grand Slam could well be the French Open in May, as he does not meet the visa requirements to enter the United States and Australia.

2) LeBron James, 37

At 37-years-old, LeBron James is still one of the best players in the NBA. He set multiple records with the Los Angeles Lakers last season, becoming the second player in NBA history – after Michael Jordan – to post 40 points and zero turnovers at age 35 or older.

He became the oldest player to average 25 plus points per game, the oldest player in NBA history to record at least 25 points in ten straight games, and the oldest player to have multiple 50-point games in a season.

The basketball legend shows no sign of letting up.

1) Rafael Nadal, 36

Nadal has won two Grand Slams since his 35th birthday, triumphing at the Australian Open and French Open this year.

The Spaniard now has the record amount of Grand Slam titles in men’s tennis – 22.

He won the French Open with a chronically injured foot, and made the semi-final at Wimbledon despite struggling with an abdominal tear during the quarter-finals. It is his ability to pull through when his body is struggling that makes him the most impressive athlete over the age of 35.
