After a thrilling Euro 2022 group stage, the final eight have secured their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Records were broken and new milestones were achieved — now focus shifts to what will come during the knockout stages.

Here's a look at this year's quarter-finalists and how their Euro 2022 journey has fared so far.

England

Euro 2022 journey

Hosts England have enjoyed a perfect start to the competition.

The Lionesses finished at the top of Group A with a maximum of nine points from three wins, without conceding a single goal.

They netted an unrivalled 14 goals throughout their meetings with Austria, Norway and Northern Ireland. England's impressive tally has set a new record for the most goals scored during any European Championships group stage.

Their 1-0 opening win against Austria was a little nervy but the following 8-0 and 5-0 victories shut down any doubt of them going far in this tournament.

Star player

Beth Mead has undoubtedly been England's most crucial player when it comes to finding the back of the net.

The Arsenal winger currently has five goals in three matches — the most scored by any player during the group stages of the Euros.

Mead is also tied with Alan Shearer on most goals scored for England at a single European tournament. One more goal in the quarter-finals will see the 27-year-old set a new record for her country.

Austria

Euro 2022 journey

Austria look to be carrying on their strong run from Euro 2017, where they made it to the semi-finals on their debut.

After their opening defeat to England, they dusted themselves off and beat both Northern Ireland and Norway to advance into the knockouts.

They scored three goals in three games but conceded just the one, courtesy of England's Mead, showing their defence should not be underestimated.

Star player

Sarah Puntigam has been a strong asset to Austria this tournament. Despite operating deep in midfield to help defend the backline, the FC Koln star has been one of her side's most creative players.

Puntigam assisted both goals scored in her side's 2-0 win over Northern Ireland and created the most chances of any player during the whole match.

Against Norway, the 29-year-old was once again solid in the middle of the park, completing 100 per cent of her tackles and making three blocks.

Record title holders Germany cruised to their place in this year's quarter-finals after topping Group B.

They didn't concede a single goal during the group stages but managed to score nine of their own.

Germany kicked off their Euro 2022 campaign with a 4-0 win over Denmark before going on to beat Spain and Finland 2-0 and 3-0 respectively.

Euro 2022 journey

Spain were dealt a huge blow at the start of the tournament when Alexia Putellas was ruled out of contention after suffering an ACL injury. However, the absence of the Ballon d'Or winner has not stifled their ability.

The Spaniards finished as runners-up in Group B after banking six points — their only loss came against group leaders Germany.

An opening 4-1 win against Finland and a 1-0 victory over Denmark secured Spain's spot in the quarter-finals for the third year running.

Mapi Leon has been a strong asset for Spain in their defensive performances.

Against Finland, the centre-back won 100 per cent of her attempted tackles but also put in a great attacking display as well. She popped up with two assists and created six chances, more than any other player on the pitch.

She had another 100 per cent tackle success rate against Denmark, as well as winning all of her aerial duels and notching 97 per cent passing accuracy.

Sweden

Euro 2022 journey

Sweden topped Group C but only on goal difference after being chased down by the Netherlands throughout the opening round.

The Swedes came up against the reigning champions in their first match, which ended in a 1-1 draw. They then played out a nervy 2-1 win over Switzerland and demolished Portugal 5-0 to seal their spot in the quarter-finals.

Star player

Kosovare Asllani is Sweden's highest goalscorer still currently playing, and sixth overall. The midfielder has shown her pedigree with some strong performances during the Euro 2022 group stages.

During Sweden's 1-1 draw against the Netherlands, Asllani created the most chances, completed the most dribbles and had the highest passing accuracy of any player in the match.

In all three group stage matches, the 32-year-old has contributed to at least one goal for her country. She currently has one goal and three assists to her name in this year's competition.

Euro 2022 journey

The defending champions were not going to let Sweden run away with Group C.

After matching them on points, the Netherlands finished as runners-up in the group stages, having scored the same amount of goals as their opponents but conceded two more.

Following their draw against Sweden, they were pushed to their limits in a close 3-2 victory over Portugal before breezing past Switzerland in a 4-1 winning scoreline.

Dutch captain and talisman Sherida Spitse has been a rock in the middle of the park for her country.

She has gone about her business of contributing to both the attack and defence with no fuss. Against Switzerland, she created the most chances and won the most duels during the match.

She also created the most chances in the match against Portugal, while bagging herself an assist for good measure.

France

Euro 2022 journey

France have looked one of the most threatening teams in the competition during Euro 2022.

The eight goals they scored throughout the group stages does not paint the full picture of how clinical their attacking lineup is.

France set the tone with a huge 5-1 win over Italy in the first match, before beating Belgium 2-1 and being held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Belgium.

Star player

Grace Geyoro wasted no time in making her mark on the competition after scoring a hat-trick in France's opening match.

As well as an impressive three goals, she was also the most fouled player during that fixture, showing just how much trouble she caused the Italians.

In the absence of the injured Marie-Antoinette Katoto, eyes will be on 25-year-old Geyoro to step up and pull the strings in attack.

Belgium

Euro 2022 journey

In just their second ever European Championship campaign, Belgium have reached the quarter-finals.

They have already recorded their best finish so far and have done so by fighting hard for their place in the knockouts.

After a 1-1 draw with Iceland, the Red Flames looked as though they would take points from France in a thrilling match that ended 2-1 in favour of the opposition.

However, a close 1-0 win over Italy on the final day of the group stages put them through to the next round.

Tessa Wullaert is Belgium's top scoring female player and is just one goal away from equalling Romelu Lukaku's all-time record of 68.

The former Manchester City star has been a key part of the Belgian attack this tournament, creating some important creative play and popping up with an assist against France.

Wullaert will undoubtedly be relied on in the next match, especially with an international record up for grabs.
