The Whites are said to be in discussions to sign the Paris Saint-Germain striker, but it appears that he has some doubters at Elland Road.
What is the latest news involving Kalimuendo?
According to 90min, Leeds are in talks with PSG over a potential deal for Kalimuendo.
The same outlet states that the French youngster is likely to cost €25m (£21m) and has already been the subject of a failed €20m (£16.9m) bid from the Yorkshire outfit.
Kalimuendo’s arrival would give Jesse Marsch’s squad a big boost. Patrick Bamford is currently the team’s first-choice striker, but he missed the majority of last season due to injury, which left them pretty light up front.
It has been a busy transfer window for Leeds, who have already signed the likes of Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra and Tyler Adams.
What has Jones said about Kalimuendo and Leeds?
Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that not everyone at Leeds is backing this move for Kalimuendo.
The journalist said to GMS: “Just from speaking to three people, there are already mixed views among such a small survey group on whether this guy fits the bill.
“They say that definitely not everybody at the club thinks that somebody of his profile is the way to be going right now.”
Why do some at Leeds have doubts about Kalimuendo?
One factor could be age; Kalimuendo is still just 20 years old. It could be a lot to ask him to fill in for Bamford should the Englishman struggle to remain fit again this upcoming season.
As a back-up option, there may not be too much to worry about. But expecting someone of Kalimuendo’s age and experience to regularly lead the line for a potential relegation candidate like Leeds does seem risky.
His numbers in Ligue 1 are pretty decent, with the France U21 international scoring 12 goals in 34 appearances last season, but whether he can replicate that in the Premier League remains to be seen. That may also be another concern for some of the Leeds hierarchy.
Whatever the case, Leeds need to bring a new striker to Elland Road before the transfer window closes and Kalimuendo quite clearly has potential. So while it does sound like some at the club have doubts, the former Lens loanee does not come across as the worst option out there.
