Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch would like to sign a new left-back ‘if the right opportunity cropped up’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Whites currently only have one senior option in their first-team squad in the shape of Junior Firpo, who has picked up another injury during pre-season.

What is the latest news involving Leeds?

Marsch confirmed in a recent press conference that Firpo is ruled out for up to eight weeks after sustaining a knock in Leeds’ 4-0 victory over Championship outfit Blackpool.

The American tactician revealed that he is ‘looking very closely’ at 22-year-old Leif Davis, who spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, making just seven league starts.

However, Marsch also indicated that Leeds could re-enter the transfer market for solutions, praising Victor Orta and Gaby Ruiz’s ability to bring in quality additions.

“When it comes to recruitment, I believe that Victor Orta and Gaby Ruiz do an incredible job of looking around the world, understanding what the demands of the style of football that the manager wants to play and then providing really good possibilities as to what those players could be and what the fits could be,” said the 48-year-old.

What has Jones said about Leeds?

Firpo could be sidelined until September due to his latest fitness setback, and Jones believes that Leeds’ long-term issues at left-back will ‘definitely’ be playing on Marsch’s mind.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “It's definitely playing on Jesse Marsch’s mind at the moment.

“It’s not something he thought he was going to have to address, but the way that he's been talking recently seems like if the right opportunity cropped up, he would go now and sign a new left-back.”

Who could Leeds sign?

The Daily Mail have reported that Leeds are ‘weighing up a move’ for Stoke City full-back Josh Tymon, who has established himself as one of the second-tier’s top defenders.

Tymon racked up seven goal contributions in 49 league and cup appearances throughout 2021/22 for the Potters and has also attracted the attention of Norwich City and Scottish giants Rangers.

Leeds Live have also suggested that the west Yorkshire outfit could revive their interest in Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez and Nicolas Tagliafico of Ajax, who have both been on the club’s radar in the past.

Whether Marsch feels the need to bring in some cover for Firpo remains to be seen, but his persistent injury issues will surely be a concern to everyone associated with Leeds.
