Chelsea are continuing to monitor the situation of Ajax striker Antony this summer with Thomas Tuchel looking to bolster his attack, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Romelu Lukaku completed his return to Inter Milan this summer while Raheem Sterling has signed from Manchester City but further purchases could still be made.

What is the latest in the race for Antony?

The Brazilian has become one of the most talked about attacking assets this summer and, unsurprisingly, it is Manchester United most strongly linked with the Ajax man.

Erik Ten Hag has already been reunited with Ajax ace Lisandro Martinez and reports suggest he is looking to add another to his squad.

But as things stand, United remain short of Ajax’s £68 million valuation, according to Goal, leaving the door ajar for a side like Chelsea to potentially hijack the deal.

Last season saw Antony score 12 goals and provide 10 assists in all competitions, playing predominantly from the right-wing in the process.

If Chelsea were to move for the 22-year-old, it would not the be the first deal struck with Ajax for an impressive winger.

Back in the summer of 2020, £36 million was splashed on the signing of Hakim Ziyech after the Morrocan had impressed as part of the side that reached the Champions League semi-finals a year earlier.

What has Jones said about Chelsea’s transfer chances?

When asked about Chelsea's interest in Antony, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think he's a possible - I wouldn't say that there's much going on with it right now. I think that they've got him on the radar because he's potentially available.”

Do Chelsea need Antony?

A glance at Chelsea’s current squad may make you think that the final third is not an area that needs strengthening this summer.

Tuchel already has Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount and new recruit Raheem Sterling at his disposal after all.

But it was a crop of players that, other than Mount and Sterling, frequently frustrated with their profligacy in front of goal from promising positions last season - managing just 22 goals combined.

It has already been reported that Tuchel is open to selling Ziyech, Werner and Pulisic this summer while Hudson-Odoi has been targeted by Newcastle as well.

The arrival of Sterling has shown that a step-up in class is desired in attack at Stamford Bridge so in that respect, it is easy to see why Chelsea are keeping tabs on someone like Antony.
