Newcastle United target Alexander Isak has been ‘told he can leave’ Real Sociedad but only ‘at the right price’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 22-year-old has been attracting attention for several years due to his performances for both club and country and could finally seal a move away from the Reale Arena this summer.

What is the latest news involving Isak?

A recent report from The Telegraph claimed that Isak had moved to the top of Eddie Howe’s wish list as he looks to add some additional firepower to his forward line.

The Sweden international is said to have a release clause of around £70 million written into his contract, though, a figure which could prove to be a major stumbling block in any potential negotiations.

In fact, The Telegraph have even provided an update on Isak’s situation stating that the Newcastle hierarchy are assessing alternative targets due to the astronomical fees involved.

It was a largely frustrating 2021/22 campaign for the 6 foot 4 ace, who found the back of the net on 10 occasions in 39 appearances, setting up a further three assists.

However, there is little doubt over Isak’s potential, and it is surely only a matter of time before someone prises him away from Sociedad.

What has Jones said about Isak?

Jones has informed GiveMeSport that Isak has ‘his eye on the Premier League’ after being informed by Sociedad that they are willing to sanction his sale.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “Alexander Isak has been told he can leave, but only at the right price.

“He is very open-minded about the situation, but I'm told he does have his eye on the Premier League. Obviously, there is the Newcastle link, but we could yet see others make a play for him”

Who else could Newcastle sign?

If Isak’s price tag continues to prove prohibitive for the Magpies, then they will be forced to focus their attention on different attacking options who are within their reach.

And French outlet Media Foot have disclosed that Newcastle have tabled a €20 million (£17m) offer for Paris Saint-Germain’s Arnaud Kalimuendo, with €5m (£4.2m) coming via potential add-ons.

The 20-year-old bagged 13 goals in 38 league and cup appearances during a loan spell at RC Lens last term but has been placed on the transfer list by new PSG sporting director Luis Campos.
