UFC star Michael Chandler has revealed that he’s been pushing to try and land a fight against Nate Diaz.

Both the lightweight division and the welterweight division are fairly chaotic right now with an entire crop of fresh names attempting to break their way into the top 15, top 10 and even top five.

That’s especially true at 155 pounds which, for the last couple of years, has been recognised as the best division in the game - unsurprising, really, when you consider just how wild some of the biggest fights at lightweight have been.

One man who has been integral to that over the course of the last few years has been Michael Chandler. The former Bellator champion made it known upon signing with the UFC that he was here for a good time, not a long time, and we’d say he’s lived up to that reputation pretty nicely.

He kickstarted his run with a knockout win over Dan Hooker before suffering back-to-back defeats at the hands of Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje, although it has to be said that he put up one hell of a fight in both instances.

Then, in his return to action against Tony Ferguson, he front kicked ‘El Cucuy’ into oblivion to ensure that he’s still in the mix for a title shot.

Alas, there’s still work to be done before he gets back there, which is probably why he’s calling out a few names that you wouldn’t expect, such as Nate Diaz.

After a fan suggested to ‘Iron Mike’ that he should pursue the idea, the 36-year-old confirmed that he’s been getting after it himself.

“I’ve been trying…”

Will it happen?

Diaz has made it clear that he wants one more fight in the UFC before riding off into the sunset so that he can explore pastures new. With that in mind, we really don’t think he’s going to care all too much about who that contest is against.

Chandler, on the other hand, has been locked in a feud with Dustin Poirier for the last few months.

The pair had to be separated at UFC 276 and it makes sense for the UFC to go down that route from a storyline perspective, but Diaz is someone you can never count out in a scenario like this.
