Carolina Panthers fans have been reacting to a video that emerged showing a new look for the team’s helmet that they are going to be using this season.

Last year the league announced that it would allow teams to wear two different helmets so that they would look better with some of the team’s choices when they decide to either wear either a throwback design or go for an ‘alternate’ look during one-off games this season.

It meant that if a team wanted to experiment and go with a complete colour change or go back to a design that came from the 1970s, they wouldn’t nessrcarily look out of place by being forced to wear a modern helmet that might otherwise make it look out of place.

The Houston Texans for instance recently announced that they will be wearing a ‘battle red’ helmet during one of their games this year, whilst the AFC Champions Cincinnati Bengals have announced that they’ll be doing something similar by donning a white helmet that will match better with their white road uniforms.

Panthers join the party

The latest team to announce their intentions are the Carolina Panthers. Now the Panthers do not have a vast history that they can fall back on when wishing to don a ‘retro’ look, as they were only founded in the mid-1990s and other than introducing a light-blue uniform in the year 2002, haven't really changed a lot from what they were back then.

As a result, they have to go down the ‘alternate’ route when it comes to any new uniform designs, and this year they are going for something simple, but effective as they go for a blackout look, complete with a music video that wouldn’t look out of place in a horror movie:

Fans find it fantastic

Panthers fans were quick to flock to the video when it dropped on social media, and there was plenty of buzz about the new look, with some even hoping that rather than just being used as a one-off that it might make its way into their permanent rotation:

The helmet means that the team can go for an all-black look when you include the jersey and pants, and if we’re honest, it’s a pretty slick look and if it did become the Panthers’ uniform permanently, we wouldn’t be against it.
