Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is "really happy" with defender Diogo Dalot, says Fabrizio Romano.

There has been talk about the Red Devils searching for a new right-back this summer, but it appears that Ten Hag is looking to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka rather than Dalot.

What is the latest transfer news involving United?

It is clear that United are in the market for a holding midfielder, while they may also bring in a right-back depending on what happens with Wan-Bissaka.

Speaking about the Manchester club's need for a new player in the engine room, Ten Hag said (via Daily Mirror): "We're looking for a player who can play in the holding midfield position, but it has to be the right one."

As for United potentially strengthening the right side of their defence, according to FootballTransfers, they are currently considering both Paris Saint-Germain's Achraf Hakimi and Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.

However, the same outlet states that the above is only likely to happen if Wan-Bissaka is moved on this summer.

What has Romano said about Dalot and United?

Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that Ten Hag considers £25,000-a-week Dalot as an important part of United's first team.

Discussing both the 23-year-old Portugal international and Wan-Bissaka, the transfer expert said: "At the moment, the priority is to find a solution for Wan-Bissaka and to create some competition with Diogo Dalot because I'm told that Ten Hag is really happy with Diogo Dalot. He considers him an important part of the team."

Who will be United's first-choice right-back in the 2022/23 season?

If United do not sign a new right-back before the window closes, then you would expect Dalot to be Ten Hag's first choice in that position.

It is clear that the Dutchman is not fully sold on Wan-Bissaka, with transfer insider Dean Jones recently telling GMS that he "definitely has reservations" about the former Crystal Palace man.

And it was a similar theme with his predecessor Ralf Rangnick, who handed Wan-Bissaka just seven starts in the Premier League last season.

Ultimately, having not always been a regular at Old Trafford, Dalot could now have the chance to cement a spot in United's starting XI, though a lot could still depend on whether the English giants sign a new right-back or not.

As for Wan-Bissaka, now may be the time for him to depart, with the former England U21 international previously being linked with a move back to Palace.
