Arsenal are not in negotiations to sign Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane, says transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Emirates, and while Romano thinks his situation could be one to keep a close eye on in August, the journalist has told GIVEMESPORT that Bayern's current plan is to retain him.

What is the latest news involving Sane?

According to Bild (via Mundo Deportivo), Arsenal are interested in signing Sane as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his options out wide.

Raphinha was thought to have been the Spaniard's primary target for the wing, but the Gunners were unable to agree a fee with Leeds United and the 25-year-old has since gone on to join Barcelona.

It leaves Arsenal now needing to consider other options like Sane.

Like Raphinha, the German has Premier League experience, spending four successful years at Manchester City before his £54.8m move to the Allianz Arena.

What has Romano said about Sane and Arsenal?

Romano says Bayern intend to hold on to Sane and are not negotiating with Arsenal or any other club over a sale.

Discussing the Arsenal links, the transfer expert told GMS: "I think he's a player to watch in August maybe because, at the moment, Bayern are keeping him. I think they will not sign a new striker. Sane, but also [Serge] Gnabry extending the contract, [Kingsley] Coman, these players will stay at Bayern.

"Lot of links for this boy but, at the moment, he's waiting to understand if Bayern will sign a centre striker or not, and there are no negotiations for Sane."

Would Sane be a good signing for Arsenal?

With Arteta clearly looking to strengthen out wide, Sane would be ideal. As already mentioned, the Germany international knows the division, while he has also worked with Arteta and played alongside Arsenal's new striker Gabriel Jesus before.

Over the last year, Sane has ranked in the 89th percentile for expected assists, the 85th for dribbles completed and the 84th for touches in the penalty area among attacking midfielders and wingers (via FBref), so this is a very dangerous player.

Having signed the likes of Jesus and Fabio Vieira so far, Arteta can certainly be pleased with the business Arsenal have done.

Adding a player of Sane's quality, though, would completely change their transfer window grade. The Bayern man and Jesus alone would make this one of the most productive summers the north London club have had in years.
