UFC star Henry Cejudo has confirmed that he still wants to fight Alexander Volkanovski in an attempt to become the first ever three-weight UFC champion.
After revealing that he’d be coming out of retirement and re-entering the USADA testing pool, many fans wondered what would come next for Henry Cejudo. The man known as ‘Triple C’ certainly knows how to ruffle feathers and whether he’s inside the cage or out of it, the Olympian is one of the most noteworthy stars in all of mixed martial arts.
The 35-year-old has been out of the game for more than two years but he seems hellbent on getting back what he never lost, and on top of that, he also wants to try and make history by winning a third world title in the UFC.
During a recent interview with ESPN, Cejudo spoke candidly about his desire to challenge UFC featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski.
“Honestly, I’m still hopeful that this Volkanovski fight is able to take place, especially after what happened with Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega.
“My overall goal, Marc, and you saw it on social media, the mutual respect me and Volkanovski have. He’s only about an inch and a half taller than me. We’re almost eye to eye, this is your 145-pound champion. The cool thing about my fight is the unknown. It’s my speed, my experience, the fact that I’ve been able to conquer and become world champion in two different sports and weight classes.”
“At the end of the day I know I sound like a broken record, but I just feel like I’m the person to fight that dude, in Australia, to really sell that fight. Nobody will give this dude the trouble, nobody would be able to sell the fight like I would, and I truly do believe I can beat him.”
Could it happen?
Cejudo has made it known that he’ll likely kickstart his second run in the UFC by heading back down to bantamweight, where he’ll probably face the winner of Aljamain Sterling vs TJ Dillashaw for the 135-pound belt.
He seems interested in jumping up in weight after that but with ‘The Great’ contemplating a move to 155 after his upcoming surgery, this superfight doesn’t appear to be all too likely for the time being.
