Newcastle United are still in the market for a forward, says Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Tyneside club have failed to land any of their top striker targets this summer, but Sheth believes they have not given up and are still searching for a No.9.

What is the latest news on Newcastle's search for a forward?

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle have ended their pursuit of Real Sociedad's Alexander Isak.

The newspaper states that the transfer fee and wages involved were a problem for the Magpies, sending them back to the drawing board.

They are also thought to be interested in Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Brentford talisman Ivan Toney, but deals for the two Premier League strikers have been deemed too expensive by the club.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs recently told GIVEMESPORT that Newcastle were quoted £60m for the former and £50m for the latter, fees they are reluctant to pay.

What has Sheth said about Newcastle's search for a forward?

While signing a new striker is proving difficult for Newcastle, Sheth doubts they have called it quits.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Sky Sports reporter said: "Newcastle really started this window very, very quickly, and it looked like it was going to be loads of players in early and the squad is sorted. I mean, they've brought in Matt Targett. He was on loan, an impressive loan from Aston Villa second half of last season, they made that into a permanent deal.

"They've brought in the goalkeeper Nick Pope from Burnley and then the big one which they have been chasing for two transfer windows, Sven Botman. So, effectively, they've sorted out the back five area, the foundation of the team, but I think further forward is something they're in the market for."

Will Newcastle land their No.9 this summer?

As of now, the likes of Isak, Calvert-Lewin and Toney look to be off the table. Despite their riches, Newcastle clearly do not want to overspend on targets.

There is still a long way to go, however, before the transfer window closes. A certain opportunity may arise, so you would not rule out the Magpies landing a new forward.

With Botman, Pope and Targett all arriving, they have done good business this summer. It will be even better, though, if Eddie Howe manages to bring that No.9 he wants to St James Park, which there is still time to do.
