Conor McGregor's UFC promo for Jose Aldo fight will never be topped

McGregor Aldo promo

Conor McGregor versus Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight Championship had all the hype around it for good reason when an epic video was released to promote the massive fight.

While the video package promoted the main-event-worthy bout happening at UFC 189 on July 11 2015, McGregor and Aldo wouldn’t meet until UFC 194 in December of that very same year.

We first see the back of a head and left hand of a man decked out in an all-black suit walking into the night, a Las Vegas night as the logo itself comes into the videos focus in the middle of the screen.

The man turns out to be the Notorious one himself, with Irishman rocking those signature shades walking towards Aldo and the two men are on a collision course in the middle of the Vegas strip.

Aldo looks up first in order to lock eyes with McGregor, who then removes his sunglasses to meet the Brazilian’s stare.

We then get some 360 camera work surrounding the two men at this very moment, before it transitions to both men inside a cage kitted out in their fight gear as the stare-down continues.

The video package concludes as Aldo throws a right hand and McGregor performs a spinning heel kick and the logo for the show in question with both men’s faces either side of it emerges.

However, this video package wouldn’t pay off at UFC 189 as Aldo would pull out of the fight due to a rib injury.

McGregor would face Chad Mendes instead, defeating the American by TKO 4:57 into the second round and became interim UFC Featherweight Champion.

Aldo and McGregor would then meet later that year at UFC 194, where McGregor would defeat Aldo with a stunning knockout punch 13 seconds into the first round to unify the Featherweight belts.

While the fight took longer than expected to happen – along with the unexpectedly quick result – the hype built through this video package cements it as one of the greatest promos in UFC history.
