Patrick Vieira is one of the greatest players in Premier League history.

The definitive case of a 'Rolls Royce midfielder', the Arsenal legend could do just about everything with his iconic loping gait and beautiful first touch often seeing him glide past the opposition like they weren't even there.

Most footballers can only dream of having the footballing brain that Vieira had with his unwavering attention to detail on the pitch allowing him to serve as the heartbeat of so many top Gunners sides.

The magnificence of Vieira

However, as we all know, Vieira was also able to mix that majesty and elegance with a hard edge that also made him simultaneously one of the most revered and feared players in English football history.

It's not for no reason that Arsene Wenger gave Vieira the honour of succeeding Tony Adams as Arsenal captain, duly leading the north London club to their unforgettable 'Invincibles' season in 2003/04.

But it was actually two seasons prior to that 49-game unbeaten run that Vieira arguably displayed his potent mix of footballing perfection and gladiatorial spirit most explicitly.

Vieira vs Man Utd in 2002

That's because one of Vieira's greatest ever performances in an Arsenal shirt came when Wenger's men won their second-most recent Premier League title with an iconic victory at Old Trafford.

The Gunners might not have gone unbeaten that season and Vieira might only have been wearing the captain's armband in Adams' absence, but what player and club achieved that night at the 'Theatre of Dreams' will be talked about for decades to come.

Yes, everyone remembers Sylvain Wiltord sending Martin Tyler wild with the winning goal, but the absolute masterclass that Vieria dropped along the way simply isn't talked about enough.

However, we're happy to report that the Arsenal icon's 10/10 performance has been placed in the spotlight once again all these years later courtesy of a YouTube video titled: "Keane Tries Injuring Vieira Repeatedly."

And although the accuracy of that title might be a little questionable, there's no denying that it illustrates just how much Vieira dominated the midfield on Arsenal's title-winning night at Manchester United.

Vieira mastering Keane and Scholes

Posted by YouTuber 'TH14 Comps', the video not only shows Vieira's stunning highlights, but also illustrates how much players like Roy Keane and Paul Scholes failed in their attempts to stop him.

It really is remarkable to see all the stars in Sir Alex Ferguson's side trying time and time again to hack him down, only to repeatedly finish up second best to a Vieria at the peak of his powers.

So, go on, you know you want to: reminisce on the night that Vieira lived rent-free in Keane and Scholes' heads by checking out his masterclass for the ages at Old Trafford in 2002 down below:

The Vieira vs Keane battle

Now, although the never-ending Keane vs Vieira debate couldn't possibly be settled by a single game, everyone can agree that it was the Arsenal legend who came out on top during that fateful night in Manchester.

There were just as many occasions where Keane would emerge the victor, but that's exactly why their rivalry was so interesting in the first place because they could go blow for blow with each other season after season.

It just so happens that when Vieira was in full flow that no matter how many nasty tackles Keane and Scholes deployed in their quest to stop his momentum that it just wasn't sufficient.

They simply don't make player like Vieira anymore, but praise the footballing gods that they did, once upon a time.
