Patrick Mahomes’ no-look pass against the Baltimore Ravens in 2018 remains one of the most impressive bits of skill in the NFL.
Whilst Tom Brady might go down as The G.O.A.T when all is said and done when his career is over, if there is one man that could possibly challenge him for that title over the next decade and more in the NFL it will be Patrick Mahomes, as his exploits with the Kansas City Chiefs have already proven.
Having been taken with the 10th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft (famously drafted after Mitch Trubisky and Deshaun Watson by the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans respectively), he was made to sit for a year behind veteran quarterback Alex Smith, but when they unleashed him in his second year, he blazed a trail that nobody really saw coming.
In his first year as a starter he won league MVP off the back of a season that saw him throw for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns against just 12 interceptions, and the #1 seed in the AFC where they lost to the New England Patriots in overtime of the AFC Championship game.
Foot stays on the gas
Whilst he hasn’t been able to replicate those numbers exactly, his numbers since then have remained equally as impressive as in his NFL career so far he now stands at 22,372 passing yards and 179 touchdowns, whilst also holding the unique record of being at home in the conference championship game for four straight seasons (a testament to how well he sets his team up in the regular season and executes in the postseason).
And whilst he has a rocket for an arm that means he can launch the ball downfield with incredible ease, his accuracy with the shorter pass is equally as impressive, and sometimes he doesn’t even need to look where he is throwing in order to get the ball to his receiver.
Pa-tricky Mahomes
In the 2018 season in a game at home against the Baltimore Ravens, Mahomes pulled out all the tricks in order to try and get the win (which they eventually did by a score of 27-24 in overtime) as he pulled off an incredible no-look pass to Demarcus Robinson in one of the plays of the year:
It has since become something of a calling card for him as he continues to break it out when he has to, but it all started here and the league is arguably rather thankful for it. The more signature, extravagant plays that players can bring Sunday afternoons, the better.
