Chelsea want to sign a wing-back after bringing in two more central defenders, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

Reports suggest that the Blues are currently trying to recruit Sevilla's Jules Kounde and Paris Saint-Germain's Presnel Kimpembe, and Jones says a wing-back could be the next thing on their agenda once Thomas Tuchel has addressed his central defence.

What is the latest transfer news involving Chelsea?

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea have made a £55m bid for France international Kounde.

Other outlets are also reporting the same, but the Blues face competition from Barcelona, who have already beaten them to Raphinha's signature.

The same newspaper has also stated that Chelsea remain in talks with PSG for Kimpembe, who is thought to be valued at £50m.

The west London club have already signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, but Tuchel needs more than the Senegal international after losing both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

They could yet lose Cesar Azpilicueta, too, which would see Tuchel have one less option at centre-back and wing-back. As per SPORT, the Spaniard is set to join Barcelona this summer.

What has Jones said about Chelsea's transfer plans?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Chelsea want two more centre-halves and a wing-back before the window closes.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: "I think that they're still trying to push ahead with it. They want two centre-backs and they still want, ideally, a wing-back, so they're still in the same situation that we knew they were in."

Do Chelsea need to sign a new wing-back?

Yes, especially if Azpilicueta does depart Stamford Bridge as expected. Right wing-back particularly is an area where the Blues do look a bit light.

In short, they need adequate cover for Reece James. The England international missed parts of last season due to injury and his absence was felt.

"Once he is back and plays three times, from the first time you start and you see what we've have missed," Tuchel said back in March after James made a return from the sidelines.

In terms of potential targets, there have not been too many links to players in the 22-year-old's position.

There was talk about Chelsea being interested in Jonathan Clauss, but he has now joined Marseille, so it will be interesting to see who the Premier League outfit turn to if they do decide to sign a new right wing-back.
