GiveMeSport transfer expert Dean Jones provides another big update…

Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains Newcastle United’s top striker target as they plot a big-money move this summer.

The spending since a Saudi takeover has been pretty cautious given the wealth available to the club - yet in the case of signing a new forward we could see them splash out for the first time.

Insiders are convinced they would push the boat out to sign Calvert-Lewin and will soon start making an attempt to get the centre-forward who reportedly has an asking price of £60m.

Another centre-forward really striking their fancy at the moment is Paris Saint-Germain’s Arnaud Kalimuendo, who has also been pursued by Leeds United recently. He’s seen as more of an alternate to Hugo Ekitike, rather than Calvert-Lewin, though.

In the meantime the club are pondering other back-up plans for a new look attack and - on top of the chase of Jack Harrison at Leeds - Watford’s Ismaila Sarr is among the names believed to be in the running.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby has always been a stand out candidate as a wide forward but with no breakthrough yet the club’s recruitment team are beginning to weigh up other options that could add new edge to their front line.

Sarr, 24, is looking to leave the Hornets before deadline day and his availability is giving Newcastle something to consider.

He’s not the only name on their list with Dwight McNeil - and even Nicolas Pepe - being mentioned as names that are attainable in this window and could give the squad something extra.
