Manchester United could sign ‘a new right-back’ this summer if they can offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-year-old fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford following the arrival of former interim manager Ralf Rangnick, and it appears unlikely that he will regain his starting spot under new boss Erik ten Hag.

What is the latest news involving Man Utd?

Romano has previously informed GiveMeSport that Diogo Dalot, who replaced Wan-Bissaka in United’s starting XI, is a player that Ten Hag ‘really likes’.

And reports have also claimed that Wan-Bissaka and fellow full-back Brandon Williams have been urged to find new clubs ahead of the upcoming campaign as their game time will be severely limited.

BBC Sport then disclosed that Crystal Palace were interested in re-signing their academy graduate on loan, three years after they sold him to United for an eye-watering £50 million.

However, offloading Wan-Bissaka on a temporary basis is unlikely to be an appealing prospect for the Red Devils, who would surely feel the need to bring in a replacement.

The former England Under-21 international still has two years remaining on his £90,000-per-week contract and finding a suitable buyer may prove difficult.

What has Romano said about Wan-Bissaka?

Full-backs are key to Ten Hag’s style of play, tasked with providing width and attacking impetus down the flanks, an aspect of Wan-Bissaka’s game that has often been criticised.

And Romano believes that United could look to bring in a new right-back if they receive a ‘good proposal’ for Wan-Bisska first.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “This depends on Wan-Bissaka. If they are able to sell Wan-Bissaka and find a good proposal for him, it could be an option to go for a new right-back.”

Who could Man Utd sign?

A recent report from the Daily Mirror states that United have been informed they must splash out £40m to prise Kyle Walker-Peters away from Southampton.

The 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength since arriving on the south coast on an initial loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur back in January 2020, registering nine goal contributions in 82 appearances for the Saints.

And Walker-Peters elevated his game to new heights in 2021/22, earning his first two caps for the senior England side after putting up some impressive underlying numbers at club level.

As per FBref, the versatile defender ranked in the 96th percentile for progressive carries, 94th percentile for completed dribbles and 93rd for touches in the attacking penalty area when compared to his positional peers over the last year.
