Newcastle United splashing out on a new striker is still a possibility, says transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Magpies have been priced out of moves for several of their forward targets, but Romano does not think that is the end of the story.

Why have Newcastle not signed a new striker yet?

Despite now being the richest football club in the world, Newcastle are clearly unwilling to overspend on players.

There has been a lot of speculation about them being interested in both Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Brentford's Ivan Toney.

However, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GIVEMESPORT that Newcastle have baulked at the fees their two Premier League rivals are asking for.

Real Sociedad's Alexander Isak has also been linked with a move to St James' Park but, again, PIF and Co seem reluctant to stump up the cash.

According to The Telegraph, the total package needed to sign Isak has scared Newcastle off.

What has Romano said about Newcastle's search for a new striker?

Romano does not think Newcastle's striker search is over yet, telling GMS that they would be prepared to spend big on someone who can make an impact now and in the future like Bruno Guimaraes.

When asked if the Magpies could still sign a big-money No.9 this summer, the transfer expert said: "I think it's a possibility.

"I think it's a possibility because they want to sign talented players, so they don't want to invest only on names, but they want to invest on players who are part of the future project, as they did with Bruno Guimaraes and with many others."

Are Newcastle starting to run out of options?

There surely cannot be too many names left on Newcastle's shortlist of strikers.

They have failed to sign Hugo Ekitike, who recently moved to PSG, while Calvert-Lewin, Toney and Isak all look to be off the table at this moment in time.

Chelsea's Armando Broja is another forward who the Premier League outfit are said to have looked at. As per the MailOnline, they have identified the 20-year-old as a potential alternative to Ekitike, so perhaps that is something they visit before the transfer window closes having missed out on the Frenchman.

Whether Eddie Howe and Newcastle will seriously consider anyone else remains to be seen, though, with signing the fifth name on a list of targets maybe not being the wisest move.
