Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis could save the club millions if he decides to stay at Villa Park beyond this summer, according to Midlands-based journalist Josh Holland.

The £45,000 per-week frontman spent the second half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and has been linked with a return to the City Ground following their promotion to the Premier League.

What's the latest news involving Davis?

According to the Telegraph, Forest and Villa have held talks over a permanent switch to Steve Cooper's side after Davis became an instant hit after his January arrival.

The 24-year-old scored five goals and chipped in with three assists, with his latest outing coming in the play-off final against Huddersfield.

Davis' five goals was the best return of his career, which has led to him stating that he wants to re-sign for the newly-promoted club.

When asked if he wants to return, he said: "Yeah, of course. This is the best I've played and the most I've enjoyed my football in my whole entire life, so it's just great to be here."

But Davis' Villa career is hanging in the balance, which is why Steven Gerrard has been targeting a new striker, although Holland reckons that keeping him could potentially save the club millions.

What did Holland say about Davis?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I think he's a good alternative to Ollie Watkins, so they could save Aston Villa millions and keep Davis, or they could spend £15m, and hopefully get someone on loan like [Mauro] Icardi or on a cheaper fee from PSG."

Could Davis get a chance at Villa?

Davis has played 86 times since breaking into the first team at Villa Park, but his record in the Premier League suggests that he's not someone Gerrard is likely to consider using.

In his 34 top-flight outings, Davis has only ever scored once, which is a less than inspiring record, although his minutes on the pitch accumulate to just nine full matches.

But Gerrard already has three other strikers which are all ahead of Davis in the pecking order.

Danny Ings and Watkins shared the workload last season, while Gerrard also has youngster Cameron Archer at his disposal, which means that should the chance for Davis to seek pastures new come around, he should definitely snap it up.
