Wolverhampton Wanderers attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White could now stay at the club, according to journalist Josh Holland.

Gibbs-White has been linked with a move away from his boyhood club in recent weeks following a hugely productive season-long loan with Sheffield United in the Championship.

What is the latest news involving Gibbs-White?

The Athletic previously reported that manager Bruno Lage plans to offer the talented 22-year-old a new contract, although he is yet to commit his future to his boyhood club.

Consequently, the likes of Everton, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Gibbs-White.

Sky Sports have reported that the Toffees have had a £25 million bid rejected for the England Under-21 international after it fell short of Wolves’ £30m valuation for their academy graduate.

Gibbs-White, who has two years remaining on his existing deal, racked up 13 goals and supplied a further 10 assists in 40 appearances for the Blades last term.

His efforts fired the Blades to the Championship play-offs and clearly caught the eye of several Premier League sides, but it remains to be seen where he will be plying his trade next term.

What has Holland said about Gibbs-White?

Holland believes that a potential change of formation for Wolves could be the key to who Gibbs-White’s is turning out for in 2022/23 and that his future will be decided by the first game of the upcoming campaign.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think the rumours linking him away have kind of gone quiet, and I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed at Wolves because especially with pre-season now underway, we'll see if Lage sticks with three at the back or goes to a four.

“The back-four could see him featuring a lot more, so I think by the time Wolves play Leeds, we'll know where his future lies.”

Where could Gibbs-White fit in at Wolves?

Wolves predominantly played a 3-4-3 formation last term, yet Football Insider have claimed the Portuguese tactician intends to switch to a back-four.

If so, that could make room for a number 10 in the Midlands outfit’s setup, Gibbs-White’s natural position, and the role in which he thrived in so regularly at Bramall Lane.

After not being given an opportunity to thrive at Wolves in the past, the creative talent will surely be hoping that changes if he does remain at the club this summer.
