Football Manager 2023 is likely to release later this year.

The game has yet to be officially announced but the franchise has continually followed an annual release schedule.

That is unlikely to change this year, with FM22 having sold over a million copies.

As a result, we’ve taken a close look at five of the most interesting saves you can take on in Europe when the game finally hits shelves.

Take a look below!

One of the biggest clubs in France has fallen on hard times.

They have won Ligue 1 no fewer than seven times but last lifted the trophy in 2008; they have since been runners-up three times and finished eighth last season.

With PSG establishing a stranglehold on the league, can you overhaul them and take Lyon back to the very top of French football?

Schalke 04

Schalke are a big club in Germany. They were mainstays at the very top of the Bundesliga for years, finishing second in both 2009/10 and 2017/18.

However, they underwent something of a financial crisis and were relegated in 2020/21.

They subsequently won the title in 2.Bundesliga; can you keep them up and turn them into a force once again?

Athletic Bilbao

This one is always fun.

Bilbao can only sign players from the Basque region of Spain but have regularly punched well above their financial weight.

They finished eighth last season but they haven’t won La Liga or the Copa del Rey since 1984.

Can you end that drought with a homegrown team?

Standard Liege

Heading over to Belgium now.

Standard Liege are one of the most successful teams in the country, winning the top-flight no fewer than 10 times, and they have been in the Belgian First Division since 1921, the longest run of any club.

Last season, though, was a disaster, as they finished 14th, taking just 36 points from 34 games. They were 41 points behind eventual champions Union St Gilloise.

Can you get them back to the top?

Deportivo La Coruna

Back to Spain for our final entry.

Deportivo have fallen down the leagues in recent years and will be playing in the third-tier yet again this season.

They reached the play-off final last term and were beaten 2-1 by Albacete, meaning they are facing up to another season in the third division.

It’s a far cry from when they were playing Champions League football in the early 2000s, even winning La Liga in 2000.

Can you get them back to the top table and into Europe once again? This is a hefty challenge.
