The representatives of Manchester United target Antony ‘would be happy’ for their client to move to Old Trafford this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

United have been attempting to reunite the 22-year-old with his former manager Erik ten Hag for several weeks now but are yet to reach an agreement with his current club Ajax.

What is the latest news involving Antony?

Romano has previously stated that the Red Devils have a ‘genuine interest’ in Antony as Ten Hag looks to make his mark on the first-team squad he inherited from Ralf Rangnick.

And GOAL have provided an update on the Brazil international’s situation, claiming that United have launched a €60 million (£51m) bid for his services.

However, it’s believed the Old Trafford outfit are significantly short of Ajax’s valuation, with the reigning Eredivisie champions demanding €80m (£68m) for Antony.

Alfred Schreuder, Ten Hag’s replacement in the Johan Cruijff ArenA dugout, even recently admitted that he intends to retain the services of the South American sensation.

“It is clear that we want to keep that boy. I think he still has a contract until 2025,” Schreuder said. “I really want to work with him; he knows that, and the club knows that too.”

What has Romano said about Antony?

Despite Ajax’s hopes of keeping Antony at the club for the upcoming campaign, Romano has informed GiveMeSport that his agents want the Dutch giants to ‘have a negotiation’ with United.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “The agents of Antony would be happy for the player to make his move this summer.

“They want Ajax to have a negotiation with Manchester United for Antony but, at the moment, it's still not something imminent because Ajax now need to sign some players and Manchester United need to clarify Cristiano Ronaldo's situation."

Where would Antony fit in at United?

Antony, who The Mirror claim could cost up to £70m, has almost exclusively featured on the right-wing throughout his senior career, racking up 46 goal contributions in 97 appearances in that position.

Jadon Sancho arrived from Borussia Dortmund last summer and was expected to play on that flank, although predominantly lined up on the left-wing.

Therefore, Antony and Sancho could form a formidable partnership on the wings for United should the Ajax ace arrive in the red half of Manchester, providing a significant boost to Ten Hag’s chances of securing a top-four finish.
