Fortunately for Bühl, her miss did not come back to haunt Germany, and she allowed herself to smile as the replay was played once more.

Lina Magull had opened the scoring in the 25th minute, and Popp doubled the lead in the 90th minute after capitalising on a mistake by Austrian goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger.

The Wolfsburg forward stuck out a leg as Zinsberger launched a goal-kick, deflecting the ball into the net.

Bühl, who set up Magull’s opener, was named player of the match for an impressive performance elsewhere.

The victory saw Germany through into the Euro 2022 semi-finals, where they will play either France or the Netherlands.
