Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson could look to buy WWE now that Vince McMahon has retired from the wrestling giant.

Vince McMahon shocked the wrestling world yesterday by announcing his immediate retirement from WWE.

Vince will no longer serve as WWE's Chairman and CEO, and will also be stepping back as the company's Head of Creative.

Stephanie McMahon will now serve as WWE's Chairwoman, while also serving as the co-CEO alongside Nick Khan.

As for Vince's Head of Creative duties, those are set to be taken on by Bruce Prichard, his long-time right-hand man.

The future of WWE is unknown right now, but some fans have speculated that higher-ups could look to sell the company sooner rather than later.

If that does happen, Dave Meltzer suggests that multi-time WWE Champion The Rock could be involved.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer suggested that while Dwayne Johnson couldn't afford to buy WWE on his own, he could be part of a consortium bid.

Dwayne himself does not have the money to buy WWE, nor does anyone, but could he go in there and round up capital? Can they all work together and buy this company together? That is an absolutely intriguing possibility.

Meltzer went on to stress that due to his love for wrestling, and the fact his daughter is signed by WWE, The Rock being part of a bid to buy WWE is "absolutely" something that could happen:

Dwayne loves pro wrestling, it was his family’s business, and his daughter is now in it. This is not some weird fantasy, this is absolutely something that can be viable.

As noted, Nick Khan is now one of the CEOs of WWE, and Meltzer explained that his relationship with The Rock could help the Hollywood megastar if he was interested in buying the company:

Nick Khan and Dwayne Johnson have a relationship, the story is they were childhood friends in Hawaii when they were both very young. Nick's sister is the showrunner for Dwayne’s TV show, so whatever relationship they had before, the fact is they know each other.

It's worth noting that this was just an idea thrown about by Meltzer, and he is certainly NOT reporting that The Rock is looking to buy WWE.

All we do know that is nothing is certain with regards to the future of WWE now that Vince McMahon isn't running the show, so make sure you stay tuned to GiveMeSport for all the latest updates.
