Venus Williams has revealed which three tennis stars she’d invite to a dinner party. 

Williams answered the question while holding a Q and A session on the EleVen Instagram account –– a women’s only clothing line that the American launched back in 2006. 

The 42-year-old had the option of picking any tennis player, whether retired or not, yet there were some notable snubs by the former world number one. 

Indeed, there was no room for the men’s ‘big three’ of Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal. 

Similarly, Venus failed to include the likes of Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur or Emma Raducanu.

Who did Venus pick? 

Venus was adamant about the three players she’d choose, describing them as the people she’s closest to on the Tour. 

Understandably, one of them was none other than her sister, Serena, with whom Venus has won 14 major doubles titles alongside. 

The other two picks were Reilly Opelka and Grigor Dimitrov, two players who are currently inside the ATP’s top 20. 

Dimitrov

Opelka is a fellow American and has won four career titles so far in his career, the last of which came at the US Men’s Clay Court Championships back in May. 

Dimitrov has been ranked as high as third in the world and has won eight titles of his own. The Bulgarian has reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open but is still searching for his first major.

Serena and Venus preparing comeback 

Both Williams sisters have announced they will play at the upcoming National Bank Open in Toronto next month. 

Venus has not played a singles match since the Chicago Women’s Open last August, where she lost in the first round to Hsieh Su-Wei. 

Consequently, some speculated the 42-year-old may be calling time on her singles career, but it seems the Hall-of-Famer is not done just yet.

Venus has accepted a wildcard into the tournament, though she has a dismal record in Toronto. 

This will be the US star’s 11th appearance at the tournament but she has won just two matches there in the past. 

Meanwhile, Serena made her singles comeback at this year’s Wimbledon but lost in the first round to France’s Harmony Tan. 

The 23-time Grand Slam champion remains in search of a record-equalling 24th major title but has not confirmed whether she will play at the US Open in September. 

However, Serena has revealed she’ll play at the Cincinnati Open in August, joining a number of other big names, including world number one, Swiatek.
