Euro 2022: New angle of incredible save during France vs Netherlands goes viral

Daphne van Domselaar’s incredible save at Euro 2022

Netherlands goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar pulled off an incredible save against France last night – and a new angle of the moment has gone viral.

France booked a place in the semi-finals of Euro 2022 with a narrow 1-0 victory over the defending champions.

The Netherlands frustrated France for large parts of the game, with the match at the New York Stadium in Rotherham forced into extra-time.

Ève Périsset then scored the winning goal – a penalty – in the 102nd minute.

The match could have been done and dusted in 90 minutes, however, if not for the heroics of van Domselaar.

With the clock ticking towards full-time, a French corner found the head of defender Wendie Renard, known for her excellent aerial ability.

She guided the ball towards the corner of the Dutch goal, but as it looped in, van Domselaar sprang across and palmed it out of harm’s way.

Renard looked to the sky in frustration, unable to believe that she hadn’t scored a last-minute winner.

Women’s football content creator Nancy Baker posted a new angle of the incredible save, with the camera placed directly behind Renard at pitch level.

The angle shows just how close Renard came to scoring, and how quick van Domselaar’s reflexes needed to be to prevent the goal.

The video has now been viewed more than 72,000 times, and accumulated more than 260 retweets and 1,700 likes.

At just 22-years-old, van Domselaar has been one of the breakout stars of Euro 2022.

She was included in the Netherlands squad as back-up for the experienced Sari van Veenendaal, but was given an unexpected chance when the Dutch number one got injured in the first match of the tournament.

Van Domselaar, who plays for FC Twente, took the opportunity and ran with it. But her impressive performances were not enough to prevent a quarter-final exit for the Netherlands.

France go on to a semi-final clash against Germany on Wednesday. The other semi-final, scheduled for Tuesday, is between hosts England and Sweden.
