Everton could make late move for 'fabulous' Premier League star at Goodison Park

Everton boss Frank Lampard claps the supporters

Everton boss Frank Lampard could seal a reunion with Chelsea ace Billy Gilmour as his current employers are ‘definitely interested’ in sanctioning a loan move amid links to Goodison Park, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Protests were held outside the Toffees’ home at the weekend, with supporters imploring owner Farhad Moshiri to sell the club or replace the board, but Lampard has until September 1 to raise spirits with fresh faces coming through the door.

What’s the latest news involving Gilmour?

Gilmour is back at Chelsea after spending last season on loan with Norwich City, where he was unable to avoid relegation to the Championship.

However, he may be set for another switch away from Stamford Bridge as, according to talkSPORT, Everton chief Lampard has been given the green light to make a move for the central midfielder.

The report suggests Gilmour is keen to work under Lampard again after he handed the 15-cap Scotland international his Premier League debut during his reign in west London.

It is understood that a number of clubs have entered negotiations to sign Gilmour on a temporary basis, with Everton among those pushing for a deal.

The 21-year-old is facing an uncertain future after Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel removed him from the first-team squad having initially travelled to the United States for the club’s pre-season tour.

What has Paul Brown said about Gilmour?

Brown understands that Chelsea are looking to send Gilmour out on another loan and Everton could be a possible destination.

The journalist feels the Scotsman’s relationship with Lampard could be crucial, but a lot hinges on what other business the Toffees do in the meantime.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “Gilmour is a really interesting one. He clearly has a massive future, but I don’t think he’s going to play very much for Chelsea this season and they would definitely be interested in another loan.

“He’s obviously a player that Lampard brought through and he played his best games for Chelsea under him.

“Is he ready to play every week in that kind of role? It is a key role for the club and that’s the big question mark because he didn’t have a fantastic season on loan at Norwich.

“But I think by the end of the window, depending on what other business Everton get done, you could well see a move for Billy Gilmour.”

Would Gilmour be a good signing for Everton?

Gilmour may have struggled at Norwich, where he was unable to steer them away from an immediate return to the Championship and the subject of abuse from the Canaries fans, but there is no doubt that he has plenty of talent.

He has racked up 35 Premier League appearances, meaning he would not need to be given time to adjust to the rigours of the English top flight, and featured under Lampard 17 times at Chelsea.

It is clear that Everton do not have a lot of cash to spend as that is why they rushed into selling Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur, so sealing loan deals may be the way to go this summer and Gilmour – who has been described as ‘fabulous’ by former Scotland international Graeme Souness – could be a shrewd addition.
