There's no denying that Jack Grealish's first season as a Manchester City player was an underwhelming one.

The Premier League champions decided to make him the first ever £100 million English footballer last summer, but he didn't really live up to expectation.

Grealish failed to nail down a regular spot in Pep Guardiola's starting XI in 2021/22 and finished the campaign with just 10 goal contributions (6G, 4A) from his 39 appearances across all competitions.

For a footballer with his unquestionable talent, those numbers simply aren't good enough - particularly when he's playing in a team as good as City.

But the 2022/23 season could be where we see the very best of Grealish in a sky blue jersey.

With Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus now gone, the former Aston Villa man will have less competition for a starting berth.

And judging by Grealish's individual highlights from City's recent 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich, he's a man on a mission.

The 26-year-old provided the assist for Erling Haaland's 12th minute opener and was a constant threat throughout the match.

Operating from the left-wing, his favourite position, Grealish was an absolute menace and looked like the player who previously took the Premier League by storm in a Villa shirt.

Fan reaction to Grealish's display

No wonder Grealish was named Man of the Match, eh?

The Englishman's partnership with Haaland looks like it could be a scary one for the rest of the English top-flight.

After the victory over Bayern, Haaland said his link-up with Grealish "is going to be fun", but also stated that they both "have to get better".

"You know I've been watching lots of City games, so of course I've been seeing myself in these situations," Haaland said. "I'm not surprised. Sure, Grealish has to get better, and I have to get better, but it was a good link and I like the vibe around him."

Both Grealish and Haaland will now be eager to impress in City's final fixture before the Premier League season kicks off, the Community Shield final versus Liverpool at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
