Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is getting ready for the new season by trying to add to his already impressive repertoire of skills with an incredible pass.

Whilst there is no argument that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is the established ‘G.O.A.T’ of the National Football League with all that he has done for the game, there is some argument to be made that Patrick Mahomes could be the man to unseat him from that throne by the time his career is done.

Since arriving with the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2017 season he has managed to put up 22,372 passing yards and 179 touchdowns across both the regular and postseason, whilst also holding a rather remarkable accolade of being the only quarterback to be able to play four consecutive conference championship games at home in the Super Bowl era, which stands as a testament to how well he sets his team up in the regular season and executes in the postseason.

If he can add a couple of more Super Bowl rings to his collection by the time he retires, then he might be able to add himself into that discussion, but right now he has to focus on trying to be the best of this current generation. An argument that sometimes comes down to how he plays rather than the numbers that come out of it.

A one-man show

Mahomes is a man that is far more than just the numbers that he puts up, sometimes it is the way he plays the game that has plenty of people mesmerised, who can forget for instance his no-look pass against the Baltimore Ravens back in the 2018 season:

Or his pass from a more of less horizontal position against the Buccaneers in the Super Bowl that managed to astound people even if it wasn’t completed:

To watch Mahomes is like watching a magic show where you don’t know what’s going to happen next, and if footage that has just been released of him is anything to go by, he’s going to be leaving a lot of defences guessing with his latest trick.

Throwing it every way you can think of

Footage posted online by Kansas City Chiefs reporter Aaron Ladd shows Mahomes taking some snaps in practice ahead of the 2022 season, and shows him taking his skillset to the next level as he manages to throw the ball behind his back:

Now as with most footage like this that comes out of practice, it should be stated that this wasn’t a fully 100% competitive environment, and that to pull it off in a game is something totally different. But it does go to show that with Mahomes and the Chiefs you don’t know what is going to come your way, but I’m sure we speak for everyone when we say that we want to see this in a game as soon as possible.
