Aston Villa appear to have had a list of fines for players leaked ahead of the 2022/23 season.Fines in professional football are far from a new thing and many clubs have suffered from their intriguing lists becoming public knowledge in the past. The lists exist as a means of retaining discipline throughout a squad and allow managers and staff to keep a better hold of players, ultimately to retain squad harmony and ensure everyone is working for each other. For many football fans and casual players who have plied their trade at grassroots level, the concept of a fine is hardly a new or surprising idea.Bookings and red cards have always been met with a fine at grassroots level, and it's the same for professional clubs, who do have to pay a fine on the cards. However, internal fine lists are often deployed separate to the conventional fines for cards which exist regardless, and as such can include a variety of rules and regulations, ranging from intelligent, to strict, to straight up bizarre.Gerrard coaching Aston Villa.Soccer Football - Premier League - Burnley v Aston Villa - Turf Moor, Burnley, Britain - May 7, 2022 Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard Action Images via Reuters/Lee Smith EDITORIAL USE ONLY. The list appeared on Reddit and Villa fan Twitter account @AVFCFaithful_ and has since been picked up by The Sun.It is unclear whether or not the list is completely legitimate or 100% accurate, but what we know for sure is that the fines included are extraordinary to read. Take a look below.

Again, it's important to stress that the legitimacy of this list remains unknown. But we know as fans that these internal fine lists exist, and have seen them leaked from other clubs before.

Let's start from near the top, where Villa players will supposedly be fined an insane £200 for every minute they are late to coming out onto the training pitch. £200 a minute. Better hope there's no traffic in the morning, in that case.

The same fine is said to apply for being late to making the coach or a meeting, while players are said to be fined £100 per item if they are dressed in the wrong attire on matchday, fail to clear the dining table or leave kit out on the training pitch.

Villa in pre-season

But what stands out most on the apparent fine list is the idea that players will supposedly be fined £50 for every day they forget to bring cakes on a birthday. Considering the fallout Yaya Toure had at Manchester City over birthday cake, it's not too bad an idea.

At the bottom of the sheet, the list states that a player who receives a red card must take the team out for a meal within four weeks of receiving the marching orders, and the worst player in a small-sided game ahead of MD-1 will have to warm up in a jumper that reads 'I am the worst trainer' the following week.

Truly wild.

Of course we cannot be sure of just how legitimate the supposed leak is, but we can enjoy the thought of 'what if?' and merely hope that it is. The sheer absurdity of some of the fines are too ridiculous not to chuckle at.

Aston Villa's Gerrard

Regardless, Villa fans are strapped in for an enthralling 2022/23 campaign which will be Gerrard's first full season in the dugout.

The permanent capture of Philippe Coutinho among other high-profile signings such as Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara has bolstered the squad and means fans can dream about breaking back into the top ten, and possibly even into the European places.
