History of the Singapore Grand Prix

The Marina Bay Street Circuit was the inaugural night race and first Asian street circuit designed for Formula 1 races.

The first ever F1 Singapore Grand Prix was held in 1966. Native driver Lee Han Seng won the inaugural race on home soil, behind the wheel of the Lotus 22.

Since then, Mercedes and Ferrari have developed a competitive rivalry on this track and have tallied four wins each — the most of any other constructor.

Sebastien Vettel boasts the most driver wins on this track with five, while Lewis Hamilton is just behind him with four.

Growth of W Series

The W Series racing calendar is constantly growing. With ten races this season, it's the most fans have ever seen since the inaugural campaign in 2019. The first ever visit to Asia this year will surely set a benchmark for more exciting race locations moving forward.

This weekend, W Series will complete its European tour when the drivers arrive in Hungary for the sixth race of the season. After the double-header opening weekend in Miami, the Championship visited Barcelona, Silverstone and Le Castellet in the most extensive calendar yet.

After taking on the Hungaroring in Budapest, the W Series will complete its 2022 campaign across the pond with races in Texas and Mexico.

Reigning champion Jamie Chadwick is currently unbeaten, having won 100 per cent of her races in 2022, extending her winning streak to seven.

Singapore will be a W Series first, so there is a lot of potential for a thrilling race and an opportunity for others to close the gap on the runaway Championship seader.
