October 7, 2021, is a day Newcastle United fans will never forget.

That was the date in which Public Investment Fund, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media completed their takeover of the club.

The news was met with widespread approval by Newcastle fans across the glove, who celebrated the end of Mike Ashley's tenure and the start of a new era.

The takeover was a long time coming.

In April 2020, ESPN reported that the Saudi-lead consortium, who have considerable wealth, were on the cusp of a deal.

On that back of that news, The Irish Guy attempted to predict Newcastle’s squad in 2022 on HITC Sport's YouTube channel.

It's now 2022, so how did their predictions turn out? Not too well, it must be said...

Goalkeepers: Wojciech Szczesny, Freddie Woodman, Willy Caballero

Newcastle have signed a goalkeeper in Nick Pope. Szczesny is still Juventus' first-choice goalkeeper while Caballero, now 40, turns out for Southampton.

Right-backs: Kyle Walker, Mattia De Sciglio, Jamie Sterry

The Magpies did sign an English right-back but it wasn't Walker; it was his international teammate Kieran Trippier.

De Sciglio is still at Juventus. While it was predicted that Sterry would make the step up from to the first-team. Unfortunately, he departed the club in the summer of 2020 and now plays for Hartlepool United.

Centre-backs: Phil Jones, John Stones, Fabian Schar, Leonardo Bonucci

Newcastle have signed two centre-backs under their new ownership thus far: Sven Botman and Dan Burn.

Jones, Stones and Bonucci remain at Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus respectively.

Schar is still at Newcastle and played 26 times in the 2021/22 season.

Left-backs: Lucas Digne, Paul Dummett

Newcastle were reportedly interested in signing Digne in January 2022, but he ended up joining Aston Villa instead.

Newcastle then made a loan swoop for Villa's Matt Targett. After an impressive season, he signed on a permanent deal earlier this summer.

Central-midfielders: Jack Grealish, Arturo Vidal, Martin Odegaard, Jonjo Shelvey, Matty Longstaff

Grealish, Odegaard and Vidal have all moved clubs in the past few years, but none have gone to Newcastle.

Grealish made the £100m move to Man City, Odegaard signed for Arsenal while Vidal moved to Flamengo.

Instead, Newcastle have signed Bruno Guimarães in a £38m move. Shelvey and Longstaff both remain at the club, but Longstaff spent the 2021/22 season at Mansfield and is far away from Newcastle's first-team.

Forwards: Jadon Sancho, Allan Saint-Maximin, Federico Bernardeschi, Matt Ritchie

It was a bit ambitious to think that Sancho, one of the world's most sought after youngsters in 2020, would sign for Newcastle. He ended up joining Manchester United.

Federico Bernardeschi's five-year stint at Juventus recently came to an end as he joined Toronto FC.

Strikers: Luka Jovic, Ayoze Perez, Troy Parrott

Newcastle's current strike force consists of Chris Wood and Callum Wilson. Jovic and Parrott have not signed for Newcastle, while it was predicted that the club will re-sign Perez, who they reluctantly let go in 2019. That has not happened.
