Football Manager 2023 is set to release later this year but will the game include women’s football?

The Women’s European Championships are currently ongoing, with England qualifying for the final by thrashing Sweden 4-0 on Tuesday evening. They will play either France or Germany in the showpiece at Wembley this weekend.

Football Manager 2023 is going to be the latest instalment in the franchise later this year and, while it hasn’t been officially announced, we know that the game follows an annual release schedule.

Sports Interactive have been open about their plans with women’s football but will the game actually include the women’s side of the game?

Will FM23 have women’s football?

At this point, we genuinely don’t know.

Miles Jacobson, the head of Sports Interactive, has been open about the company’s plans to bring women’s football into the game.

A lengthy blog post that was written in 2021 confirmed that women’s football was being developed to be included in Football Manager.

It is not going to be a separate game, but instead there is a desire to ensure that players can move seamlessly from managing a men’s team to managing a women’s team.

However, it takes a huge amount of time and manpower to alter the database so that women can be included, while the match engine also needs to be tweaked to include an accurate representation of women’s football.

FM23 has, of course, been mooted as a potential jumping-on point for women’s football but there is no confirmation as yet, which makes sense, given that we have yet to get a formal announcement of the game.

If Sports Interactive do confirm that the game will include female teams, we’ll update this post and let you know.
