Arsenal couldn't have made a worse start to the 2021/22 Premier League season if they tried.Opening up with a 2-0 defeat at newly-promoted Brentford and following it up with losses to Chelsea and Manchester City, the Gunners found themselves rock bottom on zero points with nine goals conceded and not a single one scored. There were wide-spread calls for Mikel Arteta to be sacked and the jokes that Arsenal would be battling relegation all season were raining in left, right and centre.

Arsenal's terrible start to 2021/22

However, as we all know, it ultimately proved to be a storm in a teacup within the wider context of Arsenal's season as they proceeded to shock everybody by launching an assault on the Champions League places.

They might have fallen at the final hurdle, sure, but the north London club nevertheless fought back against the odds to show that their young team can indeed punch above its weight.

Nevertheless, they couldn't have achieved that without some brilliant work from Arteta behind the scenes, which will be shown to the world as part of Amazon Prime's latest 'All or Nothing' documentary.

The Gunners followed in the footsteps of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus by welcoming cameras into their world and giving unrivalled insight to fans on what their 2021/22 season was actually like.

And ahead of the programme's release on August 4, the Premier League giants posted a brilliant clip showing the dressing room speech that Arteta gave to his squad after losing those three opening games.

Arteta speaks after three losses on the bounce

The former City coach addressed his players ahead of what turned out to be a 1-0 win over Norwich City in their fourth league game, and the pressure on his pre-match speech couldn't have been higher.

Many a manager would have come out swinging, sensing their Rocky moment and trying to give a screaming match of a speech in the hope that the players would be fired up to go to war.

But no, Arteta did something far more powerful than that by giving a speech straight from the heart, talking about everything from high performance in the emergency services to his gratitude for friends, family and the squad.

If you're an Arsenal fan and you need a good cry, then we might just have the clip for you, so be sure to check out the emotional speech that Arteta gave to his squad when everything seemed lost:

Take a bow, Mikel. That's really quite something.

An amazing speech from Arteta

It's hard to underestimate just how negative and toxic the atmosphere around Arsenal really was on the back of the Brentford, Chelsea and City defeats with anything less than victory over Norwich proving unacceptable.

But the heartfelt approach from Arteta clearly worked wonders with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang going on to scramble home a winner that set Arsenal on their way to a 1-0 win that could well have saved their manager's job.

After all, it doesn't bear thinking about what the situation at Arsenal would have been like had Arteta not set up his team for victory and had instead sunk to one of the club's worst ever starts to a season.

And it just goes to show that sometimes it's vulnerability, not blind stoicism and counterfeit strength, that can inspire people the most as a leader.
