The 2022/23 Premier League season is now mere days away from kicking off.

Home to some of the biggest talents in the global game, the annual value of the English top-flight's TV rights revenue now exceeds a staggering £10 billion.

With the Premier League attracting so much cash, it goes without saying that its prominent names are handsomely compensated for their efforts.

The competition's leading scorers might dominate the headlines, but we've seen increasing wages for those in creative and defensive roles across recent years too.

With that in mind, we've decided to take a look at the five highest-earning Premier League players in each position.

To simplify matters slightly, we've split the competition's stars into seven categories, depending on their position: goalkeepers, left-backs, centre-backs, right-backs, central midfielders, wingers and strikers.

Figures are taken courtesy of the folks over at sportrac, unless otherwise stated.

The top 5 Premier League earners in each position

Goalkeepers

5. Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City) - £130,000-a-week

4. Alisson Becker (Liverpool) - £150,000-a-week

3. Kepa Arrizabalaga (Chelsea) - £155,000-a-week

2. Ederson (Manchester City) - £160,000-a-week (per Salary Sport)

1. David de Gea (Manchester United) - £375,000-a-week

De Gea commands more than double the wage of his nearest peer. Given how many times he came to the rescue of United last season, though, it's tough to argue he hasn't earned his money.

5. Marcos Alonso (Chelsea) - £100,000-a-week

4. Kieran Tierney (Arsenal) - £110,000-a-week

3. Luke Shaw (Manchester United) - £150,000-a-week

2. Andrew Robertson (Liverpool) - £160,000-a-week (per Salary Sport)

1. Ben Chilwell (Chelsea) - £190,000-a-week

It's a sign of the relentless spending of the Roman Abramovich era that Chelsea boast two of the top five earners at left-back.

Given that Chilwell spent the majority of last season on the treatment table, the Blues were pretty fortunate to have Alonso in reserve.

Cancelo signed a new deal at the Etihad back in February to ensure that only Liverpool's Alexander-Arnold now out-earns him at right-back in the English top-flight.

The Red Devils confirmed the signing of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax on Wednesday afternoon. The Argentine centre-back will earn £120,000-a week, barely a third of Varane nets every seven days.

1. Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – £400,000-a-week

One of the finest playmakers on the planet, De Bruyne has justified his considerable wages time and time again. The same can't yet be said of his City colleague Grealish.

=1. Jadon Sancho (Manchester United) – £350,0000-a-week

Liverpool entered the close season keen to secure the services of Salah for the long term - and eventually convinced him to extend his deal. The Egyptian superstar now rakes in a massive £350,000-a-week after committing his future to Anfield.

Strikers

4. Anthony Martial (Manchester United) - £250,000-a-week

3. Timo Werner (Chelsea) - £272,000-a-week

2. Erling Haaland (Manchester City) - £375,000-a-week (per AS)

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) - £510,000-a-week

Man City picked up Haaland for a relative bargain at £51m for Borussia Dortmund. However, what they saved in a transfer fee has largely ended up in the Norwegian's pockets. The 22-year-old now ranks as one of the Premier League's top-earners.

Elsewhere, Ronaldo might be keen to leave Man Utd at present but he can't grumble too much at his £510,000-a-week salary.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner currently takes home more than any other Premier League player.
