One of Liverpool's newest summer recruits Fabio Carvalho has been catching the eye for all the right reasons this pre-season.

The 19-year-old Portuguese star started in a second-string Liverpool side that lost 1-0 to Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday evening.

The loss is the second for the Reds this off-season after they were dismantled 4-0 by Manchester United two weeks a go, with victories against Crystal Palace and Red Bull Leipzig sandwiched in-between the defeats.

Liverpool lose to Salzburg

It was a frustrating night for Jurgen Klopp's men who couldn't seem to find the back of the net for love nor money.

New star signing Darwin Nunez struck the bar for the Reds in the first half.

But it was reported Man United and Newcastle target, Benjamin Sesko, that swept past Adrian on the half-hour mark after a rapid counter-attack.

Wholesale changes were made by Klopp on the 60th minute with much of his usual first team regulars entering the fold, but despite creating even more chances, the back of the net evaded them.

Fabio Carvalho's influence

It wasn't the result Liverpool fans wanted. However, one shining light they can take away from the Salzburg game is the performance of Carvalho.

The young lad showed his class at every opportunity, dictating the play with ease and the confidence of someone 10 years his senior.

It's no wonder Klopp holds him in such high regard. Speaking earlier this month, the German manager couldn't have been more forthcoming with his praise for the 19-year-old.

“When we watched him it was a pure joy to watch him, absolutely. He can play so many different positions for us, the way we play." Klopp told the Reds' official website.

"At the minute he’s not really set on one position – it’s the wing, it’s the eight, it’s the 10, it’s the false nine if he grows a few more muscles.

“It’s a short-term and a long-term project; he can start tomorrow and he needs to adapt, you can see that a little bit, but when he has the ball that’s proper quality.

"I’m over the moon that he’s here. Fantastic prospect.”

And Klopp's a man who knows a thing or two about developing future stars...

So let's check out what all the hype is about.

It is just us or does Carvalho seem like a carbon copy of Phillipe Coutinho?

The way he moves, glides even - it's like poetry in motion watching him play the game.

Liverpool fans have been getting insanely excited about his first-team prospects this season as he grows alongside other big talents like Harvey Elliott.
