Leeds United could sign a new striker sooner rather than later, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.

The Yorkshire club are believed to be interested in the likes of Paris Saint-Germain's Arnaud Kalimuendo and Rennes' Martin Terrier as Jesse Marsch looks to bring in a new forward this summer.

What is the latest transfer news involving Leeds?

90min recently reported that Leeds are trying to sign Kalimuendo but are being made to wait by PSG, who have been impressed by what they have seen from the 20-year-old during pre-season. As per L'Equipe, the French club value him at €25m (£21m).

His compatriot Terrier is also a striker the Whites are said to be looking at after the Rennes star's impressive 2021/22 campaign.

In Ligue 1, he scored 21 goals in 37 appearances to help his side to a fourth-placed finish. It is thus no shock that his club are looking for a lot of money for him.

According to L'Equipe, Rennes want at least €40m (£33.5m) if they are to part ways with the attacker this summer.

What has Thornton said about Leeds' search for a new striker?

Thornton has suggested that it may not be too long before Leeds eventually sign a new forward.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT amid the club's links to Kalimuendo and Terrier, the Sky Sports reporter said: "They would probably be at the top end of the budget.

"I'm not saying they wouldn't pay the money for those players, but they will look at different options, and I don't think they've sort of made a final decision in terms of who they're going to bring in yet. But there could be movement sooner rather than later."

Can Leeds start the new season without the arrival of another No.9?

With Patrick Bamford fit again, it would not be the end of the world. The 28-year-old recently featured in Leeds' 1-1 pre-season draw with Crystal Palace so should be in good shape for the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign.

Marsch also has Rodrigo, who scored in that friendly, to call upon. However, given that Bamford did pick up injuries last term and Rodrigo is not exactly a traditional No.9, Leeds would still be wise to strengthen up front before the transfer window closes.

Kalimuendo and Terrier definitely seem to be options, but whether either will end up at Elland Road remains to be seen. Both players are pricey, while Marsch may not be able to offer guaranteed minutes, which could easily deter the two.
